My bullet is a 55gr Hornady V-max, and my two powders are IMR 8. SFire Min 21.4gr. / Max 22.8gr. SPR SP Min 23gr / Max 25.3gr.
After a quick search in the references I didn't find anything.I'm new to reloading and would rather be double-triple sure than mess something up, so here goes.I am unable to find the powder charge for the specific projectile I bought. I am reloading.223 using H335 powder and Hornady 55 gr. FMJ BT projectiles. On the Hornady website, it only has data for the following:55 GR. BAR TSX FB55 GR.
SPR SPIs one of these projectiles the same as a FMJ BT? Is there anywhere else I should look for this load data (online please, I have very limited funds)?Additional info: I am using once fired LC brass trimmed to 1.752, and using CCI #400 primers. Of your list of bullets the Barnes is a solid copper bullet, the SFire is a sintered metal frangible bullet, and the Speer is a normal jacketed lead bullet so not all 55 gr. Bullets are the same as far as powder charges. Hornady 55 FMJ's are one of if not the best 55 FMJ bullet. Hornady's load data uses a bolt action rifle in their testing so their data may be correct for their tests but extremely low for loading in an AR.
In the case of using Hornady 55 FMJ's TRUST Hodgdon powder company data available on-line. Normal charges for Horn. 55 FMJ's and H335 powder used by most AR reloaders charges of H335 run from 24-25 grains. Overall lengths of the Horn. 55 FMJ should be between 2.200' and 2.230'. Trust Hodgdon data for H335 powder always working up to maximum charges.
Sierra has good data on-line too but I do recommend a couple good manuals at least. So my plan is to start at 21gr and work my way up.5 gr at a time (10 rounds each time) until I see pressure signs or get to 24gr. The OAL for my rounds is is 2.2, but I will probably extend that a little as the cannelure sits just below the top of the case mouth. I might have to go back and trim the brass a touch shorter (currently 1.75), but hopefully not.Thank You guys for all the help, I have been a lurker for about 3 years now (ever since I got the black rifle disease ) and I know this is THE site to come to with questions! I stock and shoot bolth 55 and 62 grain.223/5.56 ammo. If your barrel is 1/9 it should shoot both pretty well.I mostly shoot Walmart Federal bulk pack 55 grain FMJ.223 and now my handloads made with Hornady 55 grain FMJ.
I also stock and shoot Black Hills 50 grain TSX, Barnes Vor Tex 55 grain TSX, hand load Barnes 55 grain TSX, as well as M 855 62 grain ammo from various manufacturers and Im going to handload Barnes 62 grain tipped TSX eventually. All the ammo I have shoots pretty close to point of aim within 100 yards. My Aimpoint is zeroed at 25 meters Army style for a 25/300 m zero.

My Aimpoint is zeroed at 25 meters Army style for a 25/300 m zero.So that means you zeroed your rifle at 25m with 12 rds and sat on the range for 8 more hours for the rest to do it with 112 rdsI also use whatever I can get my hands on. '55gr, 56.whatever it takes.'
